Brussels 4 March 2010. There are increasing fears that widespread attempts are underway inside Iraq to rig next weekend's ballot in the parliamentary elections. The finger of suspicion is pointing firmly at Iran, with accusations that its agents are deeply involved in plots to undermine the vote and are throwing major resources, financial and otherwise, into ensuring that their own pro-Iranian candidates emerge victorious.

Europe's Common Fisheries Policy has failed and a completely new fishing management system is needed, the European Commission has admitted.

EU: sharks now need protection from overfishing

The European Commission, presenting its first plan to limit all types of shark fishing, said yesterday that it had to act to stop several types of shark being pushed towards extinction. The rock salmon often available in British chip shops, and sometimes sold as huss, is normally spiny dogfish, an increasingly rare type of shark.
