Commenting on Gordon Brown's 'EU Compact for Jobs and Growth', announced today, Vicky Ford MEP, Conservative economic and monetary affairs spokesman in the European Parliament, said:
"It is deeply ironic that Gordon Brown and EU leaders say they support growth, jobs and innovation whilst at the same time the EU is considering a new law on investments that could make it much harder for European businesses to raise money for bright ideas.
"Over the years EU regulations have put additional red tape and cost onto businesses. The EU is now legislating on economic affairs faster than ever before.
"Rather than making sweeping statements Mr Brown and Mr Van Rompuy might do better if they focused on the details of some of the legislation already in place , and being proposed, to make sure that businesses are not stifled yet again."
