Conservative Industry spokesman in Brussels Giles Chichester welcomed the European Court of Justice ruling today that EU Roaming regulation is valid.
A number of mobile phone networks had formally questioned the legality of recently passed legislation that puts a cap on roaming charges.
He said,
"This is welcome news, particularly as we approach the summer period when most of us take holidays abroad. The legislation that we passed is designed to ensure an end to 'roaming bill shock' - where users are charged exorbitant rates for using their mobile phones abroad when either receiving or making calls.
"As a major source of revenue to the networks the legal challenge represented a last chance gasp for them to overturn the EU-wide rules. I am delighted that the court ruled in our favour and in the consumer interest."
