Strasbourg 15 June 2010. Conservative Culture and Sports spokesman in Brussels Emma McClarkin MEP told fellow MEPs in Strasbourg that efforts should be made to shine a light into the murky world of football agents.
However, she stresses that any regulation should be through national sporting governing bodies and authorities like FIFA and UEFA, not the EU said the MEP,
During a debate on sports agents in the European Parliament today, Emma said,
"I fully support efforts to make the activities of sports agents, mainly in football, more transparent.
We need to shine a light into this murky world, where exploitation could be rife and matters such as dual representation - whereby the agent can be representing a player and the same club that is trying to sign the player - need to be looked at.
However, any legislation that comes forward to regulate this sector must be from the national sporting bodies or authorities such as FIFA or UEFA. It is not the EU's place to be regulating the sporting world."
