Conservatives launch a new treaty for post-referendum EU: a Simplified Treaty to replace the Reform Treaty

Conservatives launch a new treaty for post-referendum EU: a Simplified Treaty to replace the Reform Treaty

On Monday 13th August in London the Conservative Leader in the European Parliament publishes a five-point new treaty for a better Europe

Brussels 10th August -- The Conservative Leader in the European Parliament, Timothy Kirkhope MEP, will continue the Conservative EU referendum campaign by publishing a 'Simplifying Treaty' on Monday. The document sets out a five point new direction for the EU in the form of a Treaty which the British people could accept. It demonstrates that there is a positive alternative to the pseudo-constitution demolished by William Hague on Tuesday.

Timothy Kirkhope MEP, said: "It is fundamentally wrong-headed to insist that the proposed new Reform Treaty (which amounts to a revival of the Constitution in all but name) is the only way forward for the European Union.

"The Reform Treaty sets out to move Europe in the wrong direction, towards ever more centralisation, while failing to address the real challenges facing Europe.

"William Hague did a ten point demolition of the Reform Treaty on Tuesday. The Simplifying Treaty, which we publish today, provides a five point positive alternative. It is a route map for the people who want to be in Europe but not run by Europe.

"It shows there is another way for the British people."
