Conservatives in the European Parliament call on Gordon Brown to keep his referendum pledge

Conservatives in the European Parliament call on Gordon Brown to keep his referendum pledge

Posted, October 02, 2007 @ 00:00

In a speech to the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool today, Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, Timothy Kirkhope MEP, called on Gordon Brown to deliver on his promise and give the British people their referendum on the revived European Constitution.

He said the British people know and the rest of Europe knows that the new treaty is the European Constitution in all but name.

The Prime Minister is living in a 'parallel universe' if he seriously believes the European Constitution has been ditched.

Mr Kirkhope said:

"The only thing that has been ditched is Gordon Brown's promise to give the British people a referendum.

"Mr Brown, you promised a referendum. The time has now come to deliver on that promise. I call on you today - give the British people their referendum."
