The EU, which has no ships of their own, will draw vessels from the same over-stretched navies already engaged in the operations. Foot and Mouth case welcomed

Someone must take account for the failings Brussels, 17th October 2008 -- Conservative chairman of the European Parliament's agriculture committee, Neil Parish MEP, has welcomed the High Court case being brought by 14 farmers to secure compensation from Pirbright for last summer's Foot and Mouth outbreak. He said:  "It is absolutely right that someone is held to account for the devastating events of last summer. "This case will hopefully enable us to get to the bottom of who knew about biosecurity concerns, and whether the government was negligent in allowing a potential breach.  "Ministers are asking farmers to share in the costs of disease prevention, which many farmers see as a slap in the face from a government that probably could have avoided this outbreak.  "Finally, farmers may get some justice for the misery they were caused."
