Protectionist proposals for hedge funds directive

Strasbourg, 18th May 2010 -- An alliance of the Communist, Green, Socialist and EPP groups in the parliament supported amendments to create a heavily protectionist Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) directive, which will make it extremely difficult for EU investors to invest in non-EU funds, Syed Kamall MEP, European Conservatives and Reformists group shadow on the directive, warned today.

Strasbourg, 18th May 2010 . Proposals from Richard Ashworth MEP, Conservative agriculture spokesman in the European Parliament, to simplify the Common Agricultural Policy were voted through in Strasbourg today.
The EU should not set fines or determine prosecutions for lorry drivers

Strasbourg 18 May 2010 -- The European Conservatives and Reformists group today voted against a call from the European Parliament for the EU to harmonise penalties for lorry drivers who break rules on working time, rest periods and statutory working conditions.

Brussels, 10th May 2010 -- Professor Mario Monti has published his eagerly awaited report for re-launching the Single Market today in the European Parliament in his chosen forum, the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. In presenting his report, he particularly thanked the committee's own work, saying that it had contributed significantly to his final report.
