Callanan: Prime Minister will need Maggie's handbag for forthcoming EU budget talks

Brussels, 29th June 2011 -- Conservative Leader in the European Parliament Martin Callanan MEP has called on the British government to set down clear red lines on forthcoming EU budget negotiations which would rule out any efforts to introduce EU-wide taxes or to cut the fully justified British rebate. His call comes ahead of the European Commission's publication of proposals for the next long-term EU budget on Wednesday evening.
ECR group adopts fisheries reform programme

29th June 2011 -- The European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament has adopted its proposals for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy ahead of the unveiling of European Commission plans next month.The declaration was adopted following a debate with UK Fisheries Minister Richard Benyon MP.ECR fisheries coordinator Marek Gróbarczyk MEP and Vice-President of the EP’s fisheries committee Struan Stevenson MEP welcomed the proposals. Strasbourg, 9th June 2011 -- Small business owners are still suffering from the significant worry caused by underhand practices used by so-called business directories and the European Union needs to take action to ensure legislation is in place to close them down and prosecute, Struan Stevenson MEP, Conservative MEP for Scotland, said today.

Strasbourg, 8th June 2011 -- The European Parliament has today backed a resolution co-authored by two London Conservative MEPs which calls for the EU to continue to support efforts to find people who went missing in Cyprus during its 1963-64 intercommunal fighting and during the 1974 Turkish invasion.

Strasbourg, 8th June 2011 -- In a significant vote today in the European Parliament, MEPs have overwhelmingly called for the institution to end its monthly relocation between Brussels and Strasbourg, which costs around 200 million Euros and emits around 20,000 tonnes of CO2.
