Conservative MEPs have published details of the allowances and expenses they have received in the period 1st September to 31st December 2008.

The information published includes a comprehensive list of staff, whether family members are employed, details of the professional paying agent or service provider, a breakdown of how Conservative MEPs use their office running costs, travel costs to Brussels, Strasbourg and elsewhere, and the daily subsistence allowance. The 'Right to Know' form for Conservative MEPs is equivalent to that published by Conservative MPs last July.

Timothy Kirkhope MEP, Conservative leader in the European Parliament, stressed that Conservative MEPs are the only British delegation in the European Parliament that voluntarily publishes details of allowances, and he invited other parties to follow their lead in bringing greater transparency.

Timothy Kirkhope, said:

“Conservative MEPs are the first British delegation in the European Parliament to voluntarily publish details of our allowances and expenses. I hope that other parties will follow now that we have led the way.

“We now have in place a system that ensures greater openness and  transparency, and goes significantly beyond the rules set down by the European Parliament."
