There is increasing concern that the EU will allow Robert Mugabe to attend its EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon on December 8, in spite of the fact that Mugabe and 125 of his close collaborators are banned from travel to European countries under the EU's own rules.

Speaking in a European Parliament debate on opium production in Afghanistan, Charles Tannock MEP, Conservative Foreign Affairs Spokesman, condemned the failure to coordinate and efficiently distribute EU aid, warning that continued ignorance of the problem could lead to a Taliban victory.

More than half of all MEPs have signed a Declaration supporting the introduction of marks of origin for certain types of products, including ceramics. The declaration now requires a formal response from the European Commission setting out the action they propose to take.
