Malta is faced with the wrath of the European Commission today after senior Conservative MEP, Caroline Jackson, demanded that Brussels takes the Mediterranean island to court to stop the illegal spring hunting and trapping of wild birds such as turtle doves and quail.

Mercosur is too weak to create EU style single market in the region not least because of the decision by Argentina to join with Hugo Chavez's anti free market crusade. Dr Charles Tannock MEP, Conservative Foreign Affairs Spokesman, says the EU must now deal directly with South American countries to avoid a new protectionism emerging.

The toy industry should set up a European safety marking, certified by independent testing. Toys should also be comprehensively labelled, including the source of production.

The European Union must speed up the development of a safe bluetongue vaccine and clarify its policies to enable widespread use of vaccination across Europe, Neil Parish MEP, Conservative chairman of the European Parliament's Agriculture Committee said today.
Farming Funds Plundered For EU satellites

The EU today announced plans to use almost £1.8 billion to bail out Galileo, the ailing satellite navigation system. Most of this money will come from unspent Common Agricultural Policy funds. The money was originally to have come from a private consortium, but disagreements between companies from France, Germany and Italy left the project with a major budget deficit for the period 2007-2013.
